One week

Today marks one week now since D (Disaster) Day. After showering this morning, I came down to find a typewritten note from Dad on the kitchen table. The page contained details for today's schedule from beginning to end. Dad is trying to pull things together for us--into some semblance of normal life and organization--and he's doing a great job. We're all remaining optimistic about Mom's recovery. If you know my Mom, you probably know that it's hard not to be optimistic about her! It's hard to imagine anything other than a good recovery. She is such a very determined woman.

Dad has dubbed the house in Roseville the EGG. That stands for Extremely Generous Gift, but it also represents new life -- the gift of Mom's life gradually coming back to us after such a close call. Isn't my Dad clever? Christopher and I will be spending lots of time there. He can do school there, I can fix lunch for all of us, and I can even do some work for my Dad's company on a laptop while we're there each day. Most importantly, we'll be really near Mom.

At home we always use EGG to stand for "Evidence of God's Grace." (We count our "eggs" like counting blessings.) Sounds like the house is certainly an EGG in that sense too.

I'm glad there are people close to you who can give physical help and support. Know that from across the sea I am giving you the support of prayer.

Sarah, thank you so much for setting this up. Your comments are extremely appreciated. It is wonderful to hear the blow-by-blow details as many of us are eager for information. We do love and miss your mom a great deal and appreciate hearing how she is doing.

Our Composition and Literature class is working on a blog, too, where the youth of the home-school co-op can keep Christopher up-to-date on our thoughts and prayers toward him and your family and the goings on he might miss. We'll let him know about it once we get it a little more put together. We set it up at www.homeschoolblogger.com/friendsofchristopher/.

Thanks again. We know your life has been very affected by this change in events, too, and our prayers are with ALL of the Palmers.

Blessings,
Jenny Wells

Hello Dear Palmer Family~
What peace knowing we can connect so quickly to you all.

Today a dear friend gave me a card with scripture in it, and I thought how appropriate it would be for here.

Insert your name in the blanks.___

'Do not fear, for I am with you;_______
Do not anxiously look about you, _______ for I am _______'s God.
I will strengthen ________, surely I will help _________,
Surely I will uphold ________ with My righteous right hand.'
Isaiah 41:10

Praying with you,
Heather Owens

Way To Go Sandy!

Sarah, great job posting the updates. I'm here to tell you readers that your presence at the Trauma Unit with the Palmers is a great comfort to a family and Sandy as she becomes more aware.

When I was there not long ago, visitors meant the world to me. I know, I know, it's awkward. Sandy, and even the reset of the family look out of place. Don't let that stop you.

Consider dropping by to see them. If there's nothing to say, just hold their hands or talk about nothing in particular. The staff at Sutter's Trauma Unit don't get to see many support systems kick in like the one you are a part of. They kept saying to me, "you have the most amazing friends". The cool thing is they're many of the same friends the Palmers have.

What amazing things are already happening, with a furnished home and many prayers, and rides and email contact and a blog... This is the family of God. Look closely, it may look mighty normal. I assure you, everything you're doing matters in the most powerful way.

May God show himself again as we stand in the gap on Sandy's behalf!

Sarah, thank you so much for doing this. It was so good to know how Lou Douros was recovering without troubling the family all the time for updates via his blog. The Clicks are keeping her in our prayers too. God Bless.
